Is the Angina Management Programme for you?

We offer a programme of training and support on how to reduce or alleviate attacks of angina to people who are resident in Derbyshire.

We work with Derbyshire residents who have an established diagnosis of stable angina whose symptoms are proving difficult to control with the treatments they’ve been offered so far.

Are any of these statements true for you

“I can’t do the things I want to do because of my angina”.
“I’m told that nothing more can be done for me. ”
“I really struggle to manage my angina with the medicines my doctor has prescribed”.
“I’m forever having to go to A & E because of attacks.”
“My doctor doesn’t think a stent or bypass will help me.”
“I’m desperate for something that will help me cope better with my angina”.
“I am frightened the angina will get so bad I will have a heart attack and die.
” I avoid doing things that bring on angina because I believe it will be safer for my heart.”

Do any of these scenarios feel familiar?

  • You have been told “there’s nothing more we can do for you”..
  • You have already had surgery or stents for your angina and it helped for a while but the pain came back.
  • You take your medication as instructed but you just aren’t sure what it does.
  • You don’t really understand what is happening to your heart during angina or why you get the symptoms you do.
  • You are now used to episodes of angina but your family gets very nervous and over protective.
  • When you get angina, you are frightened your heart is getting damaged and that this might be fatal.
  • You make every effort not to stress or exert yourself in case the angina comes on, so you have become very limited in what you feel you can do safely.
  • You feel you are not involved with the decisions made about your treatment.
  • You feel that consultations with your doctors are usually a bit rushed and too short for you to have all your questions answered. In fact, you’ve never really had a proper chance to talk this through with anybody.
  • You feel like you are being prescribed more and more medication some of which is giving you unpleasant side effects?
